Join Sig and Null, two robots connected together by a wire, and help them to defeat the viruses in the system using their pulse signal that travels along the wire to overload the viruses and eradicate them.

If either one of them loses their 3 battery bars by getting hit by the Viruses' projectiles, the game will end and you will be brought back the Title Screen.

This was our submission to the GMTK Game jam 2021 with the theme "Joined Together".

This game can be played Solo or with 2 Players by sharing the keyboard.

Team

Joshua Legg - Design, Programming & Level Design

Scott Taylor - Design, Programming, Art & Animation

We are two work buddies from the UK, based in the North East of England, doing this for a bit of fun outside of work.

This was our first attempt at making a game in Godot and was Scott's first time touching a game engine in general with no previous knowledge prior to the start of the Jam, which I think says a lot about Godot, definitely try it out if you haven't yet.

Features We Wanted To Implement (but we ran out of time)

Sounds & Music - Neither of us had time to get some ditties and bleep bloops done, if we had another team member or two this would've been more possible. In the meantime just make bzzt and bwoom noises with your mouth at the appropriate times.

Backgrounds - This one just sort of fell off our radar while we were addressing more critical matters, it probably would've been some parallaxing star field of neon coloured stars if we had the time to put it in.

End Screen - To further differentiate if you won or just died, as currently both situations just bring you to the Title Screen

Death Screen - This was going to say who was at fault for causing the Game Over.

Death Animations - For both the enemies and the players

Puzzle Element - Something that would make the player(s) have to think specifically about the direction of the pulse attack

More Enemies - We were in the process of creating an enemy that would move towards the players and kill them by touching them instead of shooting them. This was axed in favour of implementing the Pulse Attack, which was something we wanted from the beginning but only figured out a possible solution in the final hours (before this just a simple touch of the wire would kill the enemies).

A More Dynamic Wire - The initial idea was to have the wire grow and shrink depending on how far the players were from each other, but that feature was sinking into too much of our time, so it was axed in favour of just giving them a good length of wire to begin with and leave it at that length.

Power Indicator - There was a Lightning Symbol that would appear under the Battery when it was Sig or Null's turn to pass on the Pulse Attack. This was how we found out about the bug described in the next section, but in our attempt of fixing said bug, we completely lost all files to do with this power indicator. It looked really nice too :(

Bugs That We're Aware Of

  • At a certain point it becomes possible for either Sig or Null to trigger the Pulse Attack, regardless if it's their turn or not. We were scrambling for a solution in the final hour, but could not solve it.
  • It is possible to get out of the playing area, sadly this doesn't result in an end state so you will have to refresh the game yourself :(
